Page l of l
Maria Hoey
Subject: FW: Home Depot Proposal -- Oppose
„~,
From: Jean Pull
Sent: Wednesday, 1007 11:51 AM
To: Mayor and City Council
Cc: Pullen
Subject: Home Depot Proposal
llear Pleasanton City Council,
this letter is in regards to the proposed [Iome Depot project that is slated to he discussed at the next
meeting on May 15. My family is vehemently opposed to the proposed project. /1s long-time residents
of Pleasanton Ind nearby neighbors to the site, we question the appropriateness of this development. 1'0
its credit, Pleasanton has historically chosen to wisely locate commercial developments (such as "Big
Box" stores, car dealerships, Stoneridge Mall, Hacienda Business Park, etc.) on the city's edge, near the
fi~eeways_ with easy access. Rightly so, this helps eliminate cut-through h~affic in town. 'fo build a
"destination" home Depot in the middle of town with no easy Crecway access would only encourage
more cut-through traffic and would exacerbate the current traffic mess at the BernaUValley and Stanley
intersection. Even without the proposed development, drieers loop around the Icft turn lane on Bernal
(across ti•rnn the McDonald's) to make a u-tw-n to get on to Stanley when the traffic is backed up on
Valley. We encourage you to check this out during rush hour.
We desperately need a grocery store in our area that could serve the local residents; not a Home
Depot which is designed to drawn in shoppers ti•om across town in Pleasanton and from Livermore,
creating even more traffic chaos. ndd to this, the semi-trucks travelling through town to make picl:-up
and deliveries -using city streets, of course, since there is NO [i~ecway access -- and we have additional
safety and noise concerns. Our understanding is that Elwy 8=4 would he the "preferred" route to and from
the store; but I [~a~y 84 is three miles away as it is. "I~he tact is that neither the City nor home Depot can
enforce this h-allic route for trucks operated by independent contractors. Common sense dictates that
truckcis will take the shortest route through town to reach their destination. If the current Home Depot
store is closed, then even more traffic problems will ensue. Clearly, this site is not appreriate t<n• a
[Iome Depot.
"[hanks for your time and consideration. We love Pleasanton and appreciate all of its chasm and
amenities. We just don't think that this development at this location is the right lit for the community.
.leannie and Brian Pullen
889 Montevino Drive
5/10/2007
