(SR96:282)

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Ms. Dennis had questions regarding the orientation of the Safeway store on the property.

Mr. Swift explained that the new store will face Valley Avenue, and the Wells Fargo
Bank building and Walgreens store will remain where they are. The Valley Avenue entrance
is being redesigned so there is a central driveway to go in front of the Walgreens building,
straight down to the front of the Safeway store. The extreme western driveway will stay as it
is and the current driveway will be relocated a little to the west.

Mr. Pico asked Mr. Swift to place the size of the sign in perspective and what size sign
was at Safeway originally?

Mr. Swift indicated the sign would be about a foot from the top of the Council chambers
ceiling. The original sign was also 12' x 16' and the proposed sign is now 12' x 11.5'.

Ms. Mohr had questions about internal illumination of the sign.

Mr. Swift said the sign is similar to those in Hacienda Business Park, which is routed
out metal and internal illumination.

Ms. Michelotti asked how tall the Amador High School marque sign was.

Mr. Swift was not certain, but it was higher than twelve feet.

09/17/96
-12-
