problem is in t~ne morn'rog and a~emoon, q~ae rest o~ the day people speed through the
intersection and a li~ht will not help. She felt it will affect access to her driveway and privacy in
her back yard with the lights shining into her home. She liked the idea of narrowing Vineyard
and trying to get people to use Stanley Boulevard. She also agreed Neal Elementary is needed
badly.

Marie Andrelni, 715 Montevino Drive, said she had an opportunity to move to Ruby Hill
but decided not to because of the distance from town. When she moved to Montevino two years
ago, Vineyard was one lane in both directions. It was changed to two lanes each direction and
the speeds of the cars increased. If the road were narrowed back to one lane, it would help a lot.
She indicated she knows people who live in Discovery Bay who use Vineyard as part of their cut
through route from 1-680. She was not in favor ora traffic signal at Montevino. People who live
in Livermore should not be using Vineyard. She believed a signal at Ruby Hill which limited
traffic from Livermore would be helpful.

Tom Gallagher, 612 Marsala Court, believed a decision had to be made whether to allow
traffic to flow on Vineyard or to move it onto Stanley. The Bernal bridge expansion is a good
idea so long as the left turn lanes to Vineyard are not included. Slowing traffic to one lane with
roundabouts will calm traffic, but will also help with all the other issues raised this evening. He
asked if the signal at Montevino could be eliminated and replaced with a roundabout?

Mr. Knowles said the intersection is too small for a roundabout.

Mr. Gallagher requested staff to install the landscaping for Sauteme.

There were no further speakers.

Mayor Pico indicated this is too important a decision to be made at midnight. There are
so many different positions and issues that have been raised. He appreciated the people staying
so late, but he felt it was better to continue the decision to the next Council meeting on 2/18/03.
He would like to walk the road with the traffic engineer to get a better idea of the area. This will
be the first item on the next public hearing agenda. He referred to remarks made at the meeting.
This is not a case of us versus them and indicated everyone is a Pleasanton resident and he hoped
to find a win/win solution. The people who live in Ruby Hill need to be able to come to town,
Vineyard traffic needs calming, and the concerns of the residents need to be addressed. He
hoped to make the best decision for all, but he did not think it should be made at this late hour.

MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL

This was discussed earlier on the agenda.

CITY COUNCIL CALENDAR

No action was required or taken.

Pleasanton City Council 22 02/04/03
Minutes
