~ -,
DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSAL
What we propose is to keep the five hens that we have had for the past three
years. We initially got the chickens January of 2003 as a 4H project for two of our three
children. We were not aware that it was necessary to have a conditional use permit.
The girls built the coup with their father. It is constructed on concrete blocks
approximately a foot off the ground. It is 4' wide by 6' deep, fully constructed out of
plywood so that it can be completely closed up at night. It is 6 %z `tall at the peak; the
coup is the same height as our neighbors hedges, so that they can't see it. The coup has
three nesting boxes and a perch for the chickens to roost on, with a side yard that they
have access to during the day.
We have all enjoyed having the birds. They have been a great project for the girls
to have and a lesson in responsibility. They are responsible for cleaning the coup
(changing the sawdust), feeding and watering them, and collecting the eggs. The
chickens are tame, quiet, and easy to have. In my opinion, they are quieter than most
dogs left home alone during the day. We open up the coup no earlier than 8:00 a.m.
every day.
The coup is 17' from the neighbor's fence behind us, 19' from our side neighbors
house, and 30' from our own house. We asked all of our bordering neighbors when we
got the chickens if they minded and told them to call us if the chickens ever bothered
them. We have had NO complaints in 3 years. Two neighbors mentioned that they enjoy
hearing the chickens on occasion, and that "it reminds them of living in the country."
We propose to keep the birds and continue on with our 4H project. The kids
would be very disappointed to have to give them away since we all have become very
attached to them.
PA~t~-3
err 2 g 2005
CITY nF ?!
