ATTACHMENT 3
Steve Otto
From: Mary Roberts
Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2007 8:17 AM
To: Steve Otto
Cc: Donna Decker; Jerry Iserson; Nelson Fialho
Subject: sarich
Steve,
I understand that there has been some discussion with Tom and the Sariches about the use of our shared
well. Why in heavens name hasn't this discussion included Ford and I?
All units including existing homes, the house that is there, are required to connect to City water and
sewer. (P.78 of VCSP) The SP seemed to be ignorant of shared wells and their attendant easements
when it stated that OS lots can retain well water for general irrigation and vineyard watering. The well
use for vineyards was specifically directed to the Vineyard District, that is the flat lands where Centex
and Greenbriar are building, not home vineyards.
Any use of our shared well water will likely prevent us from drawing water since this well is not
adequate for two families. The Staff comments of 2003 asked that they address the matter of the shared
well. This has never been addressed. The Sarich property is not in the Vineyard District and thus doesn't
need to use well water to irrigate a proposed vineyard. Our grapes are dry farmed . We are able to do so
primarily because they sit on Livermore Valley soils suited to grape production. The 40+' removed from
the top of the hill will not be such suitable soil, and will have to be irrigated with City water. Should this
soil be off-hauled? Because of the absence of dependability of the well, we dug another that is
inadequate for house usage, but allows us to irrigate landscaping. There is absolutely no way we could
irrigate a vineyard with our well water.
In the packet to the Commissioners, please include Jerry's Memorandum of Oct. 23, 2006 as well as the
original Staff comments of November 20, 2003 (Heidi Kline's).
Mary
11 /7/2007
