Protect No. 9929.G Geotechnical Investigation/Vineyard Avenue, Pleasanton 8 August 2003
Settlement Considerations
7. As discussed previously, the grading operations are proposed to include fills of up to 15
feet. The fill will settle due to its self weight, foundation loads and upon saturation. It is
estimated that total settlements to be on the order of 11/2 inches and may occur due to self
weight and saturation. It is expected that most of the settlement will occur within six months
after completion of the fill placement.
Grading
General
8. The grading requirements presented herein are an integral part of the grading
specifications presented in Appendix C of this report and should be considered as such.
9. Grading activities during the rainy season will be hampered by excessive moisture.
Grading activities may be performed during the rainy season, however, achieving proper
compaction may be difficult due to excessive moisture; and delays may occur. Grading
performed during the dry months will minimize the occurrence of the above problems.
Site Clearing and Preuaration of Fill Subl?rade
10. The surface of the site in areas to be graded should be stripped to remove all existing
vegetation and/or other deleterious materials. It is estimated that stripping depths of 2 to 4 inches
may be necessary, however, the actual depth of stripping will be determined in the field by the
Soil Engineer. Any material that is deemed to be topsoil and requiring stripping may not be
used as engineered fill but maybe stockpiled and used later for landscaping purposes. It is noted
that discing of the site maybe performed in lieu of stripping depending on the time of year and
the nature of the vegetation. The Soil Engineer must be consulted prior to any discing
operations.
TERRASEARCH, ina Page 13 of 53
