TDA 4.5 Document E(a)
Page 5
During FY 2006-07, there were 195 new riders that used the Pleasanton
Paratransit Service. It is estimated that at least 200 new riders will register for the
service in FY 2007-2008.
Service changes cannot keep up with the growing need for region-wide paratransit
services, especially medical appointments. This need continues to increase as
hospitals consolidate, doctors specialize, and there are limited HMO affiliates.
Also, local paratransit providers cannot address the ever-increasing demand for
special need transportation of dialysis clients without severely limiting service to
other paratransit users.
As PPS clients continue to age in place, with 52.5% of the clients over 80 years of
age, there is an increasing need for volunteer escort services. Not all clients have
family or friends to assist them to appointments; therefore, a volunteer based
escort service would be very useful.
Marketing for the Pleasanton Paratransit Service is completed through the City of
Pleasanton Parks and Community Services Department. Pleasanton Paratransit is
promoted in the quarterly Activities Guide, produced and distributed to all
Pleasanton residents (26,000 households).
Program brochures are distributed to local stores, medical offices, the library,
schools, service centers, etc. Aone-page PPS flyer has been created as an
inexpensive marketing tool to use in mass mailings and distribution.
The Pleasanton Paratransit Service Riders' Guide is mailed to all existing clients.
It is also distributed to all new clients, local businesses, medical offices, the
library, and senior housing complexes.
The bi-annual Pleasanton Paratransit Service (PPS) Newsletter, "Around Town
with PPS", was developed through volunteer and staff efforts. The newsletter is
mailed to over 800 registered clients, and distributed to the major senior housing
complexes and community agencies. It has been well received, and serves as a
valuable resource for transit information.
The third annual PPS Transit Fair was held March 17, 2008, and included transit
providers from around the Bay Area. Residents had an opportunity to learn more
about a variety of transit resources.
The Access Alameda Transit Guide, developed through ACTIA, is also
distributed to all new paratransit clients.
The City of Pleasanton web site (www.ci.pleasanton.ca.us) includes a paratransit
information page. The paratransit application is now available on the City
website.
