December 4, 2008
Dear Ms. Soo,
[ am a resident of Pleasanton and knowing there is a public hearing for Little Ivy League on
Wednesday, December 10 ~ 7pm at the Pleasanton City Hall. Due to the fact that I am not able
to attend this public meeting, but I certainly would like to express my concerns of having such a
poor and unorganized after school day care center in our community.
1. Little [ry League is deTmitely considered as an Alter School Day Care Center
Since the beginning of 2005 when Little Iry League first established, they have always
considered themselves as a After School Day Care Center. Please refer to the sample of the
"Employment Agreement" where they state it very clearly that they provide after school care
to school age children". So, why all of a sudden they are considering themselves as a
"tutoring center". It is very clear that they are saying this only want to meet the rules of City
of Pleasanton Planning Commissioners in order to continue their business in the new location
because their lease is up with their current location.
2. Unfair hearing invitaHoos
Little Ivy League is inviting and encouraging all the parents to attend this public hearing. I
believe it is unfair to this hearing because it is to the parents' advantage to have Little Ivy
League to continue business in the community so parents can continue to go to work. For the
parents, it is more important for them to have a place for the kids to go to after school rather
than considering whether it is a tutoring center or not. So, it is really not showing a fair
public support but rather than a personal benefits reason.
3. Sanitary and Health Concerns
If someone would do an unscheduled inspection or visit to the current facility, you will be
totally surprised by how the facility is being run. Kids are all over the area and crawling on
the floor. Many times, teacher/student ratio is totally not correct.
Not to mention, there are no filtered water for the kids to drink, and they only fill up the
water container with tap water. In many cases, soap ran out in the bathroom and provide
written/used paper as popcorn container for the kids to eat with. Little [ry League does not
comply with any required health standards.
4. Not an acceptable day-care center
Please refer to some of the provided pictures that were taken in the facility. I wouldn't
consider this to be a tutoring center at all. Have u seen kids at a tutoring center all sit on the
Floor to have story time? Have u seen kids at a tutoring center play table games and also let
kids to play video games? They have also memioned "Carden West" and "Hacienda Child
Development Center" as a school in their newsletter. [really think if Little Ivy League
would like City of Pleasanton to consider them as a tutoring center and not a chi~le~„~~D
they have a lot of work that needs to be done and put their act together and they LL~~I~I
comply with ail tha basic rules where a "SCHOOL" should be like.
DEC - 5 2008
CITY OF PLEASANTON
PLANNING DIVISION
