ATTACHMENT 12
From: D Bengston
Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 4:39 PM
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject: Fw: PUD-74
----- Original Message -----
From: D Bengston
To: JEnnife_r_Hostennan ; Jerry._rhornc CheryLCook_Kalli_o_
Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 3:50 PM
Subject: PUD-74
Hi Jennifer, Jerry and Cheryl
I'm sending this to you directly as the city website will not let me open the site for
leaving messages for Council. I'm getting the message that the sender is not properly
installed! I do not have Matt nor Cindy's email or I would surely share this with them.
Please feel free to forward should you choose to do so.
PUD-74 is on your agenda Tuesday evening. I cannot attend the meeting. I have
reviewed the report and have one small concern. For whatever reason, the project
does not provide a convenient access for the future residents of the 110 homes to the
future trail system. The project is ideally situated to have immediate access on the
north side without imposing any inconvenience to existing residents. The
access would offer opportunities for access into the chain of lakes and connections to
the Arroyo Mocho Trail etc. The Community Trails Master Plan clearly shows a class
C trail on the north side of the project. To my knowledge, this project was not reviewed
by the Park and Recreation Commission nor the Ad Hoc Trails Committee so you will
not find their input in the report.
I understand that the project does not include a trail access for reasons of security. I
know Ponderosa wishes to have a secure project for those 55 and older. Their
concern for security can easily be met by simply installing electronic controls to a
secure gate. I believe Ponderosa is being short-sighted by not providing an easement
now providing an access on the north side of their project to the future rail system.
Those purchasing homes adjacent to the easement would do so knowing it will be
used for trail access. Ponderosa would be wise to not only provide that access but
to market the future access to a fine trail system as one of the many outstanding
amenities their project offers.
Those 55 and over are prime users of trails both for recreation and travel. This project
caters to the very population that should and would use trails. As a city working hard
to lower our carbon footprint and increase the health of our population, we should
welcome each opportunity for convenient trail access. Good luck on your meeting.
Cheers, Dolores Bengtson
568 Hamilton Way
