Sent: Saturday, January 03, 2009 11:48 AM
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject: Ponderosa Ironwood 55+ Community
Dear Mayor Hosterman and Distinguished Council Members:
My name is Erin Kvistad. My husband Derek and I arc lift-long residents of Pleasanton. Not
only did we have the good fortune oC being raised in this town, but we have been blessed to be
able to raise our own ['amity here as well. "Che first home we purchased in Pleasanton was in the
Country Faire neighborhood built by Pleasanton-builder Ponderosa Homes. We currently reside
in the Ponderosa Ironwood neighborhood off of Busch Road. We have lived in our home for
over three years. We have been extremely satisfied with our neighborhood in terms of layout,
conununity plan, and amenities and we have had a very positive experience with Ponderosa as
the builder of our home. In addition, scvcral months after moving into our home, we were able
to relocate my grandmother (now 94 years old) to the Ponderosa-built senior apartments also oC['
of Ironwood Drive. She greatly enjoys her complex, the amenities provided there and the
sun~ouuding neighborhood and parkas she gets out and walks with her dog scvcral times a day.
I am writing to express my support for the new proposed Ironwood 55+ Connnunity proposed
for the Reimers Drive entrance off of the traffic cirdc on Ironwood Drive. "fhe project appears
well-thought-out and consistent with the critical need Cor housing in this community for folks
over 55. Also, it best compliments the existing Ironwood Community. A project such as the one
proposed will have significantly less impact on the surrounding neighborhoods than would a
public school. As a parent of two children in elementary school (that is too Car away Ior them to
walk to) I see first hand every day the significant impact a school has on a neighborhood, not
only Monday through Friday as every parent drops off and picks up their kids Cor school and
afternoon sports practices, but also on the weekends as the facilities arc filled with soccer teams
and other sports interests. Such traffic would especially impact the children in our neighborhood
who play on their own streets, the families who utilize the pool complex, and my elderly
grandmother and her neighbors who walk through their complex, along Ironwood Drive and to
the park.
My husband and I, and my grandmother, support Ponderosa in its efforts to bring this unique
project to Pleasanton. We arc happy to see a Pleasanton company, who has built many of the
nice neighborhoods in town, who contributes to the tax bast of Pleasanton, and who provides
jobs for our community, and many of whose employees also live in Pleasanton, work so hard to
contribute to the quality of life in its own community.
We ask that you act on the recommendation of the Planning Commission and vote "Yes" on this
project.
Sincerely,
Erin Kvistad
1287 Douahuc Ct.
