Dolores Bem~tson -was surprised to Icarn that this projcct had gained approval before it was brought
before the Trails Committee for review and input She was concerned that there could be an issue at a
later date with inappropriate and insufficient access to the trails fi~om the development Ms. Bengtson
felt that denying seniors access to the trails would be wrong and she he something that is planned ahead.
She lclt the plan should be given back to Ponderosa for them to come up with a good recommendation
and urged the Trails Ad Hoc Committee to think of future residents of the development so that they will
be able to access the trail easily
.lonathan Krueger- agreed with the comments made by Ms. Bengtson regarding resident's access to
trails fi~om the development. He had concams about lad< of trail connection to other trails.
Chairperson Kummer closed the meeting for public comments at 7:20 p.m.
Mr. Rajs also agreed with Ms. Bengtson's comments and would recommend not ruling out the option of
having Ponderosa consider changing the plan. Ms. Wahl agreed that an additional access to wails would
benefit senior residents of the development.
Mr. Strcng felt it would be a disservice to the residcnts not to provide them the additional access and that
long-term alTccls should be taken into consideration. He suggested staff direct Ponderosa to explore
trail connection access on the north-end of the projcct with the inclusion of a secure gate option for the
safety of residcnts.
Chairperson I{ummer was concerned with the "big picture" and future access to the proposed lakes area.
Ile regrets that this projcct was not brought to this committee Ior review when it was in the earlier
planning stages. Ile advised that he had walked the site last week with Parks and Recreation
Conunissimicr, Jerry Pcntin.
The Committee discussed their concerns and recommendations with Ms. Harding and Associate Planner,
Stcvc Otto. 'they reviewed the proposed site plan and suggested Ponderosa explore other options as
possible trails access locations.
A motion was made by Mr. Strcng, seconded by Mr. Rajs, recommending that Ponderosa Homes
explore the feasibility of securing Cuturc Uails access from the north-end of the Proposed h~onwood
Active Adult Development, with the inclusion of a secure gate option for the safety of residents.
ROLI.
