California Constitution, Article XXXIV: The State Constitution
requires approval of the local electorate before any publicly-
funded housing project can be constructed (with certain exceptions).
This requirement may limit the number of publicly-assisted housing
units built in Pleasanton. In the past, voters throughout the

State have often been reluctant to approve publicly-assisted
housing when it has been placed on the ballot. However, in 1972
Pleasanton voters did approve a total of 150 publicly assisted
housing units to be either built or replaced. Any significant
subsidized housing project might be faced with the Article XXXIV
requirement as a constraint.

-101-
