Mrs. Leona E. Richards, hostess of the Welcome Wagon Service in this territory, and her
assistant, Mrs. Pimentel, appeared before the Council in regards to a letter of welcome
she wished from the Mayor that she may present to the newcomers in this area as she
calls on them. She explained to the Council that the Town would not be obligated to
her Service in any way and that her expenses would be referred to her Sponsors; there-
fore, the Council agreed to grant her request for a letter of welcome.
Mayor Trimingham then called upon Mr. Rodenberger, Southern Pacific Representative,
to present his views on the proposed Limited Zoning Ordinance. Mr. Rodenberger stated
that the Southern Pacific Railway Co. is very much in favor of Zoning, although the
usual pattern for zoning differs from the one that has been proposed. In his opinion,
it would give. the City a better basic usage pettern and reduce difference of opinion
if the City were divided into four zones, (1 Single family dwelling, 2 Multiple
family dwelling, 3 Light industrial, 4 Heavy industrial) as this is the usual
v3 pattern. He also asked the Council to send his Company a copy of the Limited Zoning
CT7) Ordinance in final form, prior to its adoption.
Mr. Orin Crowe stated his approval of a Zoning Ordinance if the Commercial Zone did
41 not prohibit retail outlets.
1
1
5. 1
Pleasanton, California
October.21, 1952
The City Council met in regular adjourned session at 7 :30 P.M. on the above date with
Mayor Trimingham presiding. ROLL CALL showed present: Councilmen Abrott, Cairo, Han-
sen, and Hewitson.
Mayor Trimingham then called on Mr. C. S. Richards. Mr. Richards objected to the
Zoning Ordinance as he stated•he had been approached by a certain chain store organi-
zation interested in erecting a store on his property, contingent upon General Motors
erecting a large plant in the vicinity of Highway 50 and Hopyard Road. The Council
advised Mr. Richards that should such a development become a reality, the Ordinance
would no doubt be revised or amended to meet said conditions.
Mr. Oxsen reported that Mr. W. F. Brenner,. of Garatti Winery, had contacted him regard-
ing the possibility of enlarging his business at some future date. He stated he does
not contemplate doing so but should some governmental agency impel him to do so, the
present Zoning Ordinance would not permit him to se.. The Council felt that if such
were the case an exception would be made as it has no intention of forcing anyone out
of business.
Mr. Hill appeared, on behalf of his mother, in regard to her property on St. John St.
She felt that inasmuch as her lot was adjoining the Safeway Store property it would be
more valuable as commercial property instead of residential property and therefore felt
this property should be in the Commercial Zone.
Mr. Shotwell stated that his opinion had not changed since the Hearing and that he
approves of the Ordinance as it now stands.
Attorney Gale again explained that the Ordinance was merely a stop -gap measure and would
require revisions before being adopted in final form. Further study of. said Ordinance
will be made, and the discussion will,.be resumed at the next meeting.
Mayor Trimingham spoke to Mr. Rodenberger regarding the failure of the Southern Pacific
Railway Co. to widen their ditches adjacent to the Sewer Farm, as they had agreed to
do so. Attorney Gale then read a letter from the Southern Pacific Co. stating they had
made some repairs to their trestle and deepened the channel for drainage, but in order
to widen the channel additional land alongside would have to be purchased. They agreed
to co- operate with the City as to any future maintenance. Mr. Rodenberger requested
copies of the correspondence in order to help the Town get some action before the winter
rains start. Attorney Gale was asked to reply to the Southern Pacific Co. requesting
that their Engineer meet with a City Representative to determine the best solution at
the present time.
Mr. Deetz, of the Chamber of Commerce, reported that he had contacted Mr. Potvin re-
garding a dry dump site and that Mr. Potvin was willing to set up such a site on his
property for the following fees: 50¢ small load, 75¢ large load, and $1.00 big
truck. The Council agreed that his prices were very reasonable and asked Mr. Oxsen
to request Mr. Potvin's presence at the next meeting in order to speak with him in
person.
COMMUNICATIONS:
9 -15 -52 City of Huntington Beach Anti 4% State Sales Tax Resolution
Oakland City Council 11 it It TI II II
9 -25 -52 City of Santa Rosa, Favor 4% State Sales Tax
9 -26 -52 Ala.
