12 9.S
Councilman Rivolta brought up the matter of fire hose which had been ordered returned
to the American Rubber Company some two months ago. He stated he was of the opinion that the
hose had been returned until he had been advised to the: contrary: After some discussion
among.the Councilmen on what should be done, it was ordered that the amount on hand should
be ignored until a decision was reached as regards the purchase of additional hose. Some
of the councilmen were of the opinion that as soon as the Council got ready to purchase any
hose that' it should proceed on its own account in asking for prices and samples.
The matter of the Council entering into an agreement with the County of Alameda whereby
"the Health Officer of said County and.his deputies, assistants and Clerks shall examine at
the 'Clinic conta-at's with cases of tuberculosis in said city as a function relating to public
health" was brought up fat discussion and after a report on same by the Mayor and the Clerk
as to what other cities were doing, it was ordered that the agreement should be signed. The
Clerk was instructed to advise the Board o'f Supervisors with' reference to the matter and ask
that another agreement form be sent and at the October meeting a resolution be passed author-
izing the Mayor and the Clerk to sign:
The Clerk brought up the matter of the meeting next Monday evening-, September 11th at
which time the tax rate would be set. He discussed with the Council the matter of special
library tax so that the people of the municipality would understand how the work was being
financed etc. The Council was of the opinion that same should be given attention. Also
the Clerk brought up the matter of Mrs. Viada, Janitor, of the City Hall, expecting additional
compensation in the amount of $5.00 for taking care of the library since same had been
previously allowed by the County. This matter was taken under consideration:
Resolution No. 1698 authorizing the payment of the salaries of the municipal*off•icers
was then presented. On motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded' by Councilman Trimingham and
with all the councilmen in favor of same, the resolution was adopted.
There being no further business the meeting adjo ed at 9 :30 to meet in special
session next Monday evening, September llt at 8 o'cl c .
Jerk
Approved:
or
Pleasanton, California, September 11, 1939.
The Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton was called to order in adjourned session on
the above written date by Mayor Thos. Orloff. .Present at roll call were Councilmen Madsen,
Trimingham, Rivolta, Brenner and Orloff.
The Clerk discussed with the Council the advisability of passing a resolution concern-
ing the setting,up of a Library Fund in order that moneys might be available through taxes
for meeting the expenses of the librarian's salary.. The Clerk further advised that in
conversation with the City Attorney, it was brought out that.any special funds-such as
the Music and Promotion Fund and now the Library Fund, should appear as part of the General
Fund on the tax bill and that the segregation of funds appear only as a matter of record:
The City Attorney advised that an ordinan'eei .would have to be passed to take care of same,
it being presumed that these two funds might only run for an indefinite period. The Council,
following a short discussion of the matter, on motion of Councilman Rivolta, seconded by
Councilman Trimingham and with all the Councilmen in favor of same, adopted Resolution
No. 1699.
The 'Mayor stated that the meeting had been called to set the tax rate for the year
1939 -W. At the conclusion of the
discussion on motion of Councilmen Madsen, seconded by Councilmen Brenner and with all
the Councilmen in favor of same, Resolution 1700 wherein the tax rate of $1.32 was set, was
adopted. The resolution read as follows:
"Whereas the ordinances of the Town of Pleasanton in accordance with the State Law,
require that the Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton meet on the second Monday of September
and at that time fix the rate for town taxes, designating the number of cents on each on
hundred dollars of assessed valuation levied for each fund and must then levy the town taxes
upon the taxable 'property in town:"
"NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Town Council of PleasartDn, in session on the
evening of September 119 1939, do hereby fix and declare the rate for taxes for the various
funds of the Town of Pleasanton for the year 1939 -1940 as follows:"
"The sum of Seventy (70) cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to
be levbd against all taxable property in the Town of Pleasanton, to be placed in the General
Fund;"
"The sum of six 16) cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to be
levied against all taxable property in the Town of Pleasanton, to be placed in the Water
Bond Redemption Fund;"
"The sum of Twenty (20) cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to be
levied against all taxable property in the Town of Pleasanton, to be placed in the Municipal
Improvement Bond Fund;"
"The sum of twenty -six (26) cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to
be levied against all taxable property in the Town of Pleasanton, to be placed in thel929
Municipal Improvement Bond fund;"
