He
stated however, to his best knowledge and belief that.the town finances were in good shape.
Under old and-unfinished business the matter of the resignation of Crawford Letham, as Fire
Chief, was brought up for consideration. On motion of Councilman Hansen, seconded,by Councilman
Brenner and with the council all approving, the recommendation of the Fire Department that John
J. Amaral be appointed Fire Chief and George S. West Jr. Assistant Chief, was accepted. The Mayor
then called upon the new chief and the retiring -chief for a few remarks. The new chief invited
the members of the city council to attend a meeting of the fire department to be held the follow-
ing evening, June 4th at the fire department headquarters. The Mayor then presented the fire
chief badge to Mr. Amaral.
Under new business, Lee Wells, appearing for the Alameda County Fair Association, solicited a
donation from the municipality for the Fair. The Mayor queried the Clerk as to the funds avail -
able after which the council held a short discussion of the matter. On motion of Councilman Hansen,
seconded by Councilman Trimingham and with all the councilmen in favor of same, it %.was ordered that
$40D.00 should be donated to the Alameda County Fair Association for advertising purposes and that
this money should be available on July 1st. Mr. Wells thanked the Council for the donation and
while he had asked for $500.00 he was satisfied with what had been allowed. The Mayor stated to
him the 'reasons for the Council being unable to allow as much as they did last year.and further
stated that the sum allowed would have to cover the street decorations. He further stated that in
addition to this donation, the would would have extra policing to take care of and such expenses
as would'increase what would be allowed.
. George Sobeila asked the Council for the use of McKinley Park .for Wednesday, June 12th for
a school picnic. He stated that tiie third grade wished to hold a picnic that day. The permission
was granted.
The' Clerk solicited authorization from the Council to prepare ad -#ertisih61 material to be-
distributed by the Junior Chamber of Commerce delegates on their trip east and same was allowed.
The'Clerk then presented Resolution No; 1720 -- authorizing the payment of the salaries of
the municipal officers for the month of May amounting to $772.50. On motion of Councilman.
Brenner, seconded by Councilman Trimingham and with all the councilmen in favor of same, the
resolution was adopted.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 9:45 o'clock to meet in regular
session, Monday evening, July 1st at 8 o'clock. . s
L'leasanton, California, June 21, 1940.
The Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton met in special session on the above written
date at 8 o'clock, with Mayor Ambrose Rivolta presiding. Present at roll call were: Council-
men Brenner, Trimingham, Hansen and Rivolta. Councilman Mezza' was absent:
The Mayor stated that the meeting had been called to consider the plan of the Standard
Oil Company to erect a service station on the Wehr -Carey property at the corner of Main and
Ray Streets. The Clerk presented a sketch of the service station which was discussed. Build-
ing Inspector Peter Christensen advised . the Council that the service station as planned
conformed to the building ordinance. The Council approved the c,erection of the service
station.
The Clerk brought up the matter of the installation of a septic tank at the race track
to be used in connection with the main dwelling. The Council regarded this septic tank
as being a temporary installation and approved of same. The Clerk reported to the Council
that there were town sewer connections on.the property, but that the fall from the house was
not sufficient for the connection with the regular sewer. He also stated that if roses were taken for certain spots owned by the Town
that the town would look after their removal, but that it.,-.could not assist with the removal of
roses going to other locations.
The Council had a short ,discussion with regards Ordinanee 154.
There being no . further business the meeting adjourned at 9 O'clock to meet in regular
session, Monday evening, July 1st at .8 o'clock
j
