Filed.
The Mayor then called upon the various committee chairmen for reports...
Councilman Mezza of the Public Utilities Committee reported that considerable work had been
in-progress of recent date to improve conditions at the sewer farm. He said the ponds were
being cleaned up and that the levees would be built up as soon: as things had dried up. He
mentioned that he hd talked with Mr.Duke Bonde regarding tractor work on the premises and that
at a future meeting he would report further on what could be done. He reported that he had
taken up the pump situation with Mr: S&under:s and advised him of the Council's decision in
the matter. He said that the transformers had been ordered removed from the sewer farm. He
brought up the matter of the installation of a gasoline motor at the sewer farm and stated
that he had approached the G & L Auto Service regarding the matter. This firm were willing
to install a Model A second gear motor ready to operate with direct connection for $100400.
The council seemed favorable to such an installation being made. Councilman Mezza was anxious
to know what to do with regards the disposition of the 10 H.P. motor and starter now on hand
at the sewer farm because same would not longer be used. While there was some discussion on
the matter there was no definite action taken.
Councilman Brenner of the Laws and Judiciary Committee brought up the matter of ordinances
and asked that Attorney Nilson discuss same with the Council. Attorney Nilson then proceeded
with Ordinance No. 178, whose second and final reading' had been postponed from a previous
meeting. Following the reading of this, ordinance there was some discussion among the Council-
men regarding, towel service being included. Mr. Nilson explained with reference to amending
this ordinance in order to include same and suggested that it might be advisable at this time
to pass the.-ordinance and then at -a later date, if necessary, to provide for towel service in
&ðer ordinance. He stated that the ordinance as prepared might be construed under laundry..
work to include towel service. The ordinance was adopted on motion of Councilman Brenner,
seconded by Councilman Trimingham and with all the councilmen present approving. .O:RDINANCE
NO. 180 was brought up for second and final reading and adopted. This ordinance provides for
"THE ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, ENLARGEMENT, ALTERATION, REPAIR etc. etc. etc." and was adopted
on motion of Councilman Brenner, seconded by Councilman Mezza and with all the councilmen
present approving of same. ORDINANCE NO. 181, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF PLEASANTON REG-
ULATING THE ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLATION, ENLARGEMENT, etc. etc." was adopted on
motion of Councilman Hansen, seconded by Councilman Trimingham and with all the councilmen
In favor of same.
Attorney Nilson then read and discussed for the Council an ordinance amending Sections 1
and 2 of Ordinance No. 140, same being concerned with the opening of places of business to
the public after the hour of 2 o'clock in the morning or to be open before the hour of 5 o'clock
finless by special permission of the Council and also the granting of special permissions -to
persons or places of business wishing to remain open during those hours, said permit "shall
not be construed as authorization for the sale of any intoxicated liquor in violation of
any statutes or regulations of the State of California in regards thereto." This ordinance
was introduced on motion of Councilman Brenner, seconded by Councilman Trimingham and with
all the councilmen in favor of same. Attorney Nilson then read and discussed an ordinance
• "ORDERING THE CLOSING UP AND ABANDONING OF PORTIONS OF ROSE AVENUE LYING NORTHWESTERLY OF
THE INTERSECTION OF SAID ROSE AVENUE WITH PLEASANTON AVENUE: AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE
EXECUTION, ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND DELIVERY OF A DEED TO THE ABUTTING OWNER, AND FINDING AND
DETERMINING THAT EQUITY REQUIRES THE CONVEYANCE TO SAID ABUTTING OWNER OF THE PORTION OF THE
STREET ORDERED CLOSED UP AND ABANDONED." This ordinance was introduced on motion of Council-
man Hansen seconded by Councilman Mezza and with all the councilmen in favor of same.
Councilman Trimingham of the Street and Building Committee reported to the Council on the
Main Street Sign ,baying been damaged by a passing truck loaded with cotton on Saturday evening,
February lst. Mr. Trimingham queried the City Attorney with regards to the matter and what
should be done. Mr. Nilson reported that in conversation with the Chief of Police he had been
advised that the sign had a clearance of 14 feet whereas the law provides 132 feet and it was
very probable that the sign was damaged through negligence of the driver. The hief of Police
reported that there was a record of the driver of the truck, the owner etc. whereupon Mr.
Nilson .stated that in all probability the truck was covered .by .insurance and as such the sign
would be repaired by the insurance company upon the proper claim being made. Mr. Nilson suggest-
ed that the sign die repaired and returned to its original condition, but made the suggestion
that the sign proper should be raised and installed on the trust since it was in two sections
and could be easily raised. He also suggested that estimates be secured on the work which had
to be done and the matter was referred to Councilman Councilman Trimingham for action.
