1352
Councilman Trimingham spoked with regards to permission having been granted Mrs: Marie
Kohler about two years.ago for the removal of certain trees in front of her property on St.
John's Street. At that time it was understood that new trees would be planted to replace those
removed. However, it developed that the trees had been planted in between the trees to be
removed for which permission had been granted that they 'should be taken out. Mr. Rodrigues
was queried in the matter and he suggested that the trees go out. Councilman Trimingham reported
on his accompanying Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Stovall and Mr. Rodrigues to the California Nursery
on February 2nd regarding the securing of trees for the streets. He reported that approximately
65 trees had been bought and would shortly be set out.
Fire Chief Amaral asked permission to procure an oxygen tank which was needed for the res-
uscitator and same was granted. He also reported on the matter of fuel oil tanks etc. and
suggested that the matter rest and no action be taken and same was ordered. He asked that
authorization be given with regards condemning the buildings on-the Crommie Estate on Main Street.
He further reported on the conversation with the State man since this property had been taken
over by the State on account of taxes not being paid. The council was in favor of authorizing
the Fire Chief to proceed.
Councilman Brenner queried the City Attorney with reference to the P.G. &E. pole on the James
Trimingham service station property and with reference to the town's liability in connection with
same. Mr. Nilson was of the opinion that since persons trespassing were trespassing on private
property and that same would be covered by any public liability insurance that Mr. Trimingham
might have and if there was Hone --that he would be liable for anything* that might happen on his
premises.
Councilman Mezze.brought up the chlorination matter and mentioned that the Health Officer
had suggested its installation: He stated that both companies would be willing to put in their
outfits and have them tried out and would make any terms for their purchase which the town might
require. Discussion .followed on the project but no action was taken. However, the council felt
that samples of water should be taken and eh-ecked by both companies and recommendations made with
reference to the amount of chlorination necessary.
Councilman Mezza brought up the matter of the town buying gasoline on bids from someone of
the companies operating in the territory. The Mayor had the Clerk advise him with regards to
the present proceedure and the proceedure in years past after, which there was.some discussion.
The general feeling-.!was4.that the present proceedure should continue.
The Clerk was directed to correspond with the State Controller with reference to a refund
of the, gasoline tax to the Town of Pleasanton.
The Clerk then presented Resolution No. 1737 authorizing the payment of the salaries of the
municipal officers for the month of January amounting to $772.50. The resolution was adopted
on motion of Councilman Brenner, seconded by Councilman Mezza and with all the councilmen in
favor of same. _
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at. 10 35 o'clock to meet in regular
session, Monday evening, March 3 at 7:30 P.M.
Pleasanton, California, February 21, 1941.
The Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton met in special session at 7 o,'.: @lock on the
above written date with Mayor Ambrose Rivolta presiding. Present at roll call were: Councilmen
Brenner, Mezza, Trimingham, Hansen and Rivolta.
The Mayor stated that the meeting had been called to consider the chlorination plant.
He explained the situation as it presently existed, and the buying of water from the Pleasanton
Township Water District. He advised that it is very probable that mare water would be needed
in the future and he thought it proper at this time `to give more consideration to the chlorinator
plant and attempt to reach an -early decision as to whether it should be put in or not.
At this point the Clerk read a letter from Wallace & Tiernan regarding test made of water
of recent date. Discussion by Councilman Mezza on the matter resulted and he stated that the
test had been made following a request from the Council at the last meeting. A discussion among
the Councilmen followed and principally how a chlorinator outfit be purchased , and especially if
it could be purchased as an emergency measure without advertising for bids. The opinion of
Attorney Nilson was to the effect that if the apparatus was immediately needed, and it was
apparent that it was from the recommendations of the Health Officer, that it could be purchased
as an emergency measure. After a short discussion of this situation, Mayor Rivolta raised the
question: "Are we going to purchase one or not ?" On motion of Councilman Meaza seconded by
Councilman Triminghan and with all the councilmen in favor of same, it was ordered that a
chlorinator plant be installed. .The Clerk was instructed to writ® both companies who had
submitted figures on same under date of November 8, 1940 and query them further with regards
to whether there had been any advance in price on the chlorinator and under what conditions
they could be purchased.
Councilman Mezza then brought up the matter of a pump and motor which would be needed in
connection with the chlorinator plant and advised that same could be procured from the Centerville
Electric and Pumpt Company for $318.00, F.O.B. He stated that a 10 H.P. outfit would be required
in connection with the pumping of the Mater from the well to the sump. There was some discussion
relative to the matter and it was decided that if same was necessary it should be procured on
motion of Councilman Mezza, seconded by Councilman Hansen and with all approving.
There heing no further
Monday evening, March 3rd.
y%
business, the meeting
adour ed at 8 0' 7: ek to meet in regular session,
City Clerk
r1
4W
