No employee shall accumulate <br /> more than one - thousand, four - hundred forty (1,440.0) <br /> hours of sick leave. An employee may be allowed a sick <br /> leave deficit of twenty -four (24) hours beyond that <br /> actually earned. Employees on leave of absence with <br /> pay in lieu of temporary disability payments, pursuant <br /> to Section 4850 of the Labor Code, shall accumulate <br /> sick leave during said leave of absence, in accordance <br /> with the provisions of this section. <br /> 6.5(2) Fire Battalion Chiefs Sick Leave Accrual <br /> Fire Battalion Chiefs, during their first year of <br /> employment, earn sick leave at the rate of eleven and <br /> two - tenths (11.2) hours for each month of service. <br /> Upon successfully completing his /her first year of <br /> employment, each new employee shall receive five hun- <br /> dred thirty -seven and six - tenths (537.6) hours of sick <br /> leave credit in addition to that earned during proba- <br /> tion. Sick leave <br /> shall not be considered a right which an employee may <br /> use at his /her discretion, but shall be allowed only as <br /> follows: <br /> 1) In cases of necessity and actual personal sickness <br /> or disability of the employee; <br /> 2) For medical and dental appointments of the employ- <br /> ee, at the discretion of the immediate supervi- <br /> sor; <br /> 3) For the care of or attendance upon the sickness or <br /> disability of members of his /her immediate family <br /> or for bereavement because of the death of a <br /> member of his /her immediate family.
