,
Subject FW: Planning for Pleasanton's East Side SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the City Council
After Distribution of Packet
From: John D. aynsiba [ 61/9—C
Sent: Wednesday, May 13, 2015 12:36 PM Date
To: Mayor and City Council
Cc: Shweta Bonn
Subject: Planning for Pleasanton's East Side
Honorable Mayor Thorne and City Council Members,
I am writing to you as a resident,as a small local employer and as a volunteer with local non-profit entities.
As an employer with the organizational priorities of"Family,Community, Firm" it is very important to us to have
opportunities for our 40 plus Pleasanton employees to live near their workplace so that they can spend time with their
families and contribute to their communities. By providing housing opportunities for our Firm's employees and all the
other employed folks in the Tri-Valley,we can decrease pollution and waste while giving residents the time to contribute
to our community that they might otherwise spend commuting.
As a volunteer at ValleyCare, I am concerned about the ability of our 1,200 plus healthcare professionals to live near our
facilities.
As a volunteer with Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group I interact with many of the major employers in our area who
similarly see housing opportunities as a major challenge for their businesses and a major decision factor in the location
of their facilities.
As a volunteer with Sunflower Hill, I am excited about the many projects that are currently underway to meet the
ragically under-met need of housing for developmentally delayed adults and about the possibility of meeting several
mmunity needs by including Sunflower Hill in the housing component of the East Pleasanton area.
The benefits of having entry level housing close to employment centers are well known to each of you and I believe that
these benefits are equally supported by each of you. The benefits of having housing for developmentally delayed adults
close to their families and in our community are also very compelling.
I know that my opinions above are not specific to the planning for East Pleasanton, but I believe that they are relevant to
the planning in the context of continuing the rich Pleasanton heritage of planning for smart development.
As a resident, I am concerned about the fate of this property if our community does not take a proactive role in planning
for its'future. The old adage that"Failing to plan is planning to fail" is just as true here as it has always been. The 3
years and many, many dollars spent on getting the community to this point should not be wasted. Our current water
challenges give us the opportunity to plan smarter with the property owners and developers—stopping the process
because of the current condition is difficult for me to comprehend unless we believe that we will never have rain
again. As a member of the PUSD's Excellence Committee a number of years ago,we planned our priorities at a time
when school funding was at a bare minimum—when funding became available, Pleasanton was first in line because we
had a plan. Those that failed to plan before the resources were available were at significant disadvantage.
I regret that I will be traveling next week and unable to attend the City Council meeting. I know that you will hear many
opinions and have much to consider—it is my hope that you do what is best for all of Pleasanton.
Thank you for your service and for all that you do for our community.
Respectfully,
John Sensiba
•hn D Sensiba, Managing Partner
Sensiba San Filippo LLP
1
