ATTACHMENT 16
Brian Dolan
Director of Community Development, City of Pleasanton SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
® 200 Old Bernal Road Provided to the City Council
Pleasanton, CA 94566 After Distribution of Packet
Dear Mr. Dolan, pgta iii n, tb/6
•
As a resident of Middleton Place, I understand how the access road into the Lund Ranch II project has
become an emotional issue for both my neighbors in Ventana Hill and in Sycamore Heights/Bridal Creek
area. The major concern for Middleton Place residents continues to be the closure of Livingston Way and
the redirection of Middleton Place onto the Lund Ranch II development. To this issue, I would like to
provide the Planning Commission and staff additional data that may not have been consider in the past.
Thanks to MapQuest, I have been able estimate the mileage for various destinations within Pleasanton
which are reflected in the table below. The table gives the one-way mileage from the foot of Middleton
Place base on the current roadways and the mileage based on the proposed redirection of Middleton
Place through the Lund Ranch II development.
Current Mileage if
Destination Mileage Redirected Through Difference
Lund Ranch
Raley's 1.12 1.90 0.78
Sa(eway'(Bernal) 0 61e-$1
Valley View
Elementary School' 1 95 5 3 32 1 37
.3,, ili yr4 . 1i 1 'i 4'37 :C- r 554'x- 5 ,
Bernal & Stanley 2.50 3.73 1.23
p wMFsswn Hii(s Park' _41k 1•7,A ,,,Y`h 1'95 ,`s•
AVERAGE ONE 1.01
WAY MILEAGE
As you can see from the data, heading south towards Sunol Boulevard and Highway 680 is almost a
wash, and the distance is the same whether using the existing or proposed roadways. On the other
hand, heading to designation in other directions will increase the amount of driving for Middleton
residents. On average, Middleton residents will have to drive an extra mile to get to their designation.
An extra mile each way doesn't sound like much, but if you extrapolate the additional mileage to all of the
residents on Middleton Place using the Planning Commission staff average of 10 trips per day per home,
you get the following:
2 extra miles per round trip x 15 homes x 10 trips/day/home x 365 days/year=109,500 extra
miles/year
Based on the EPA's website (http://www.epa.clov/cleanenerov/enerov-resources/refs.html), the
calculation used to determine annual greenhouse gas emissions per mile is:
alp ' Valley View Elementary is the designated home elementary school for Middleton Place
