8.89 x 10-3 metric tons CO2/gallon gasoline x 1/21.4 miles per gallon (cartlruck average) x 1 CO2, CH4,
and N2O/0.988 CO2 = 4.20 x 10-4 metric tons CO2E /mile
The associated annual greenhouse gas emission for the extra miles that the residents of Middleton will
have to travel is:
4.20 x 10' metric tons CO2E/mile x 109,500 miles/year= 45.99 metric tons CO2E/year
Based on numbers from www.carbonifv.com, it would take the planting of 230 additional trees to offset
the extra 46 metric tons of CO2 that that would be produced due to the realignment of Middleton Place
through the Lund Ranch II project.
On the economic side of the equation, the additional mile each way, will result in the annual purchase of
an additional 5,116 gallons2 of gasoline at a cost of$16,3203.
Given the City of Pleasanton's environmental leadership, does it make sense now to add the additional
greenhouse gas into the environment? The additional greenhouse gasses will affect all of our neighbors
in Ventana Hill, Sycamore Heights/Bridal Creek and Lund Ranch II, to no one's advantage. The extra
mileage will result in the use of additional natural resources which could easily be avoided by keeping the
road configuration onto Middleton Place as it is today.
The original intent of diverting Middleton Place traffic to Lund Ranch II project was to reduce the amount
of traffic using Livingston Way to Hopkins Way to Independence Drive from Bonde Ranch development.
This was proposed nearly two decades ago. In that time we have become a neighborhood with many of
our friends residing in Ventana Hills and vice versa. We've attended dinners and parties, carpool our
children to school and seen them graduate together, participate in the Ventana Hill's annual Santa Clause
greetings, and even receive the Steering Committee view on the Lund Ranch II project. We have been
neighbors for nearly 20 years, which is longer than most marriages before a divorce4. So, what is purpose
of changing the road configuration today? It will only break up an existing neighborhood, waste natural
resources, and add additional greenhouse gasses into the environment.
The only way to alleviate the wasting of natural resources and the associated greenhouse gases is to
approve PUD-90-18-07M, the PUD Minor Modification that would retain Livingston Way as a public
through street whether the Lund Ranch II project is connected to Lund Ranch Road or to Sunset Creek
Lane. Keeping Livingston Way connected to Middleton Place, as is has been for nearly 20 years, will
maintain the status quo without adding yet another environmental burden to the project that has yet to be
addressed.
Thank you for your consideration and taking the time to review the data that has been presented.
