Gerry and City staff.
First, thank you for all your help for the past 25 plus years with the Evangelical Free Church Property. A
special thanks for the attention to this property the past two and a half years as we dealt with Ponderosa Homes
and the church.
As you know, 27 years ago a group of concerned Valley Trails residents joined to work together and improve
our neighborhood. Although we accomplished many amazing things(getting our homes out of the flood zone,
play ground equipment for the park as well as park improvements, placing a sign at the north entrance of Valley
Trails, planting trees, etc...) we could never get the Evangelical Free Church to he a good neighbor. We had to
get the City involved just to get them to plant a hedge around their property so neighbors wouldn't have to see
their weeds . Even now. weeds are sky high and Valley Trails residents with allergies are suffering because of
it! I can confidently say that all of us homeowners are looking forward to them moving out of Valley (rails.
For many years, Valley Trails residents have been asking me "how do we get bathrooms in the park?" Unlike
most of the parks in Pleasanton. ours is a long, linear park. Most of the houses are a considerable distance from
the play ground equipment. This makes it difficult for our young ones to get home to a bathroom in
time. Toddlers have been known to go in the bushes instead. Over the past few years. I have learned that the
City has requests for bathrooms in every park in the City. They just don't have the funding to accomplish
that. I am pleased that Ponderosa has agreed to pay for bathrooms in our park. near the playground equipment.
Over the past two and a half years we have had MANY neighborhood meetings about how we would like the
spot where the Evangelical Free church is to look and what amenities we'd like.. I. personally, have had at
minimum 200 phone conversations with neighbors about the various proposals and at least 75 one on one
meetings with neighbors. At our neighborhood meetings we have put a chart on the wall where various ideas
were listed and voted on. Every time, bathrooms and a clubhouse were the number one and two requested items
for our park area.
The only people really questioning the need for the bathrooms are the ones who live close to the playground
equipment. The majority of the residents have told me it is a good idea as long as the bathrooms are
automatically locked at night like at the Sports Park.
Ponderosa has also agreed to provide the current Valley Trails neighborhood with a clubhouse to be used at no
charge 12 times a year. We need this for our neighborhood meetings and annual potluck. I'm looking forward
