ATTACHMENT 2: PUBLIC COMMENTS
From:
Sent: Monday, March 18, 2019 7:25 PM
To: Mayor and City Council
Cc: Nelson Fialho;Gerry Beaudin; Ellen Clark;
Subject: Food for thought- DSP Direction
Dear Mayor Thorne and City Council members,
I was excited about the direction of the DSP task force prior to the Feb. 25th meeting. Thought many of
the recommendations would help create a more vibrant retail center for our residents.
However, I was concerned with the sudden reversal of DSP recommendations at that meeting. If left to
stand, I believe these recommendations will reduce our retail vibrancy and turn our existing Main Street
and connecting side streets into more of a dense residential area vs.a vibrant and unique retail oriented
downtown that excites our residents. I think there are unintended consequences that have not yet
been fully explored. Hopefully I am wrong.
Attached is my summary of the DSP recommendations from 2/25 vs.what I believe were key project
goals and resident desires (As I have not yet seen the minutes, there may be minor inconsistencies, but
hopefully this is very close).
Requests to you:
• Thanks for glancing at my attached summary and doing your own validation. Here is the
resident survey as a
starter. http://www.citvofpleasantonca.gov/civicax/filebank/blobdload.asox?BIoblD=29947 -see attachment
C(pages 10 and beyond)
• Please help us reengage the public with latest thinking before we send this through the
political process.
o When there are just one or two residents speaking out at PC and DSP meetings(vs.developers),we
can do better. Maybe a townhall or two at the library with broad notification??
• Please share your thoughts with staff so they can create the best staff recommendations.
Thank you again for insuring we evolve our downtown in a way that our residents are excited about and
actively use in the years to come.
Respectfully,
Nancy Allen
19
