THE CITY OF
East Pleasanton Specific Plan
Public Comments pL-EASANTON.
As you are well aware, the community's desire to weigh in on the planning of the East Side has
precedence. There were significant numbers of residents (over 1,000 attendees in the past East
Side neighborhood meetings and City Council meetings)who opposed the past plans for the
EPSP. Some of you are on record having voted to stop the planning process until the community
weighed in on an advisory vote as indicated in 5/19/15 City Council Meeting minutes.
The residents still want a vote in order to have their opinions heard. Many residents are also
concerned about the timing of this agenda item prior to the Thanksgiving and now the Winter
holidays when people are distracted by the family obligations and activities, and see this as a
direct thwarting of their democratic rights to have their opinions heard by their elected
representatives .
It is important that the public be made aware of any developments or proposals that will
significantly impact their quality of life in Pleasanton like those currently being entertained on
the EPSP.
Making the East Side planning process transparent and a legitimate process requires you to keep
your promise and let the voters decide whether we should plan for the EPSP prior to the 2022-23
RHNA Cycle.
I urge you to begin the Planning of the East Side only after there is an advisory vote of the
residents as promised in 2015 and once the RHNA numbers have been allocated in late 2020.
The future East Side development will have a significant impact on our community's resources
and the quality of life for our residents. Make this planning process a transparent and open
process that involves more than a home builder and the stake holders who will profit from the
development. Our community prides itself on it's history of engaging in and providing protection
to the community for the greater good, not the pockets of the influential lobbyist and home
developers.
Sincerely,
Kelly Cousins
Provided to City Council for the February 18, 2020, Meeting 74
