We are retired and
very happy to be here.
After moving here, and after a very long hiatus, I began road cycling again. I was pleasantly
surprised by the number of bike trails and lanes, as well as the general receptivity to cyclists and
the courtesy shown to cyclists by most motorists in this area. That, in turn, has gotten me
interested in the general role and place of cycling in the Tri-Valley area. As a general
proposition, I believe that the more we can reasonably encourage residents to cycle — both as a
means of transportation and as a form of recreation—the better off we will be as a community,
from multiple perspectives (environment, personal health, reduced auto traffic congestion, etc.).
With that as a background, I write now regarding two current issues before the Council.
1
