First, I urge you to support secure, weather protected bicycle parking spaces at the ratio of one
per-unit in the Objective Design Standards that will be discussed at your January 26 meeting, as
well as adequate electrical to recharge e-bikes. (I think it is a given that the number of e-bikes
in use in the Tri-Valley area will only increase.) Lower income residents, in particular, need
affordable transportation—which in a climate such as ours can, and often hopefully will be, a
bicycle — as well as a secure place to store their bicycles.
Second, as the grandfather of two future Pleasanton public school students, I urge you to
support the School District's proposed redevelopment of their Bernal/First and Vineyard
Avenue properties at the densities the School District is requesting. The School District must
be able to raise the funds needed (i) to provide good teacher housing (if we are to attract the
most qualified teachers which I think we can all agree our students deserve), and (ii) to purchase
a school site property to reduce overcrowding. I understand that if the densities are too low, the
School District may invoke AB2295 which would require (i) densities 50% higher than those
the School District is requesting, and (ii) 30% of the units to be affordable. I believe it is not in
the City's interest to force the School District to invoke AB2295.
Thank you very much for your attention, and for your service on the Pleasanton City Council.
Kerry W.
