NSA"row City Council Meeting - Submit
Submitted On:
your written public comment
Jun 5, 2023, 10:58PM PDT
a
wNNEV City of Pleasanton
Full Name First Name: Billie
Last Name: Otis
Email (this entry is disclosable brobrat@sbcglobal.net
if included)
City Council Meeting Date June 06, 2023
Agenda Item Number 11
Comments Mayor, Vice Mayor, Council Members,
When the map was finalized splitting Pleasanton into Council
districts, Mayor Brown stated, "Our intention is to serve all of
Pleasanton, all residents, all areas, all neighborhoods and all
districts, so that will be the goal, just like it was when we were an
at-large election. All five [Council members] have vowed to support
the entire city of Pleasanton." Unfortunately this sentiment does not
seem to have carried over into the proposed Operating and
Capital/Capital Improvement budgets.
Why are we moving forward on two costly, elective, nonessential
amenities - the $6.4 million skate park, and the $4.8 million Century
House renovation - when we have essential, mandatory needs to
fund? Although prioritized in the upcoming Capital Improvement
Program (CIP) budget, and categorized as "quality of life" projects,
neither the skate park nor the Century House actually support the
quality of life for a majority of Pleasanton residents.
Before spending $11.2 million on a couple of special interest
projects we would be better served to prioritize, develop, fund and
put in place a water supply strategy - one that diversifies our water
supply, while ensuring that everyone living and working in
Pleasanton has access to clean, safe drinking water. Additionally, it
is imperative to ensure there is enough water, water pressure and
water flow for firefighting during the peak demand fire season.
The Council's plan to bring contaminated wells online during peak
water demand periods this summer is a quality of life, health and
safety issue - a negative one. I realize the plan to treat and
rehabilitate our PFAS contaminated wells was put on hold due to
.., cost, however Pleasanton still needs to develop and invest in a
viable plan.
Safety has always been high on Pleasanton's list of desirable traits.
Pleasanton's Police Department has vacancies to fill, units have
been shut down, personnel reassigned, and contract negotiations
