NSA NTo City Council Meeting - Submit
Submitted On:
a your written public comment Nov 7, 2023, 10:48AM PST
City of Pleasanton
OpR NYtp FG
Full Name First Name: DeJauna
Last Name: Joseph
Email (this entry is disclosable dejaunajj@gmail.com
if included)
City Council Meeting Date November 07, 2023
Agenda Item Number 16
Comments I am strongly opposed to the proposed substantial increases to the
city's water rates that are scheduled for discussion at the upcoming
City Council meeting on November 7th, 2023. As a homeowner with a
larger lot size, exceeding 1 acre, an 8000 sqft home, and a family of
seven, I am deeply impacted by these proposed changes.
When my family and I moved into our home in 2019, we were
informed that our property was classified as a high water user due
to its size and prior family's needs. In response, we have taken
significant measures to conserve water, including installing water-
reducing fixtures, a smart irrigation system, and a smart water
monitor to detect leaks. Despite our best efforts, maintaining our
grass, which is a requirement within our community, necessitates a
certain level of water usage.
The proposed rate increases would place an undue burden on
families like mine who are already striving to use water responsibly.
The additional financial strain resulting from these hikes would be
both unjust and unsustainable for residents in larger properties.
Given the extensive measures my family has taken to reduce water
consumption, it is disheartening to face the prospect of significantly
higher bills.
urge you to reconsider this proposal and explore alternative
solutions to address the city's water needs. Punishing responsible
homeowners with exorbitant rate hikes is not the answer. Instead, I
encourage the City Council to consider implementing a tiered system
that takes into account the efforts residents have made to conserve
water. This way, those who have taken proactive steps, like my
family, can be recognized and rewarded for their conservation
efforts.
I kindly request that you take my concerns into serious consideration
during your deliberations on this matter. I am more than willing to
participate in discussions or provide additional information to
support my case further.
