Application P23-0906
Lisa Cheney >
Tue 1/30/2024 12:01 PM
To: Emily Carroll <ecarroll@cityofpleasantonca.gov>
*** [EXTERNAL] This message comes from an external organization. Exercise caution when opening
attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. ***
Hello,
We live at Zinfandel Court and received a Notice regarding an application for bee keeping at an
address adjacent to our property, 3132 Tokay Ct. We are very concerned with a proposal for two
beehives. Previously a neighbor next door to us had one beehive and it presented problems for us.
They have since moved away and the hive is gone. However, while the hive was next door on multiple
occasions the bees swarmed and we were not able to be outside. Additionally, during one swarm they
took up residence in a bush in our front yard. The neighbor hired a professional to assist with moving
the hive from our front yard, but in the process our bush was disturbed and ended up dying. We also
have an acquaintance who tried to keep a hive and the bees just disappeared one day while he was
away. We would be concerned that we could end up with bees taking up residence in our yard, or the
walls of our house. We know that bees can sometimes do this as this happened to a neighbor and they
had to hire a professional to remove the bees from their garage wall. Finally, while the hive was next
door we had a greater number of bees in our yard than would be considered normal. it is only now that
the hive has been gone for over a year that we realize how great an impact it had on us.
For these reasons we are concerned with this proposal especially not knowing the level of expertise with
bees this homeowner has. Additionally, what recourse would we have if there were issues and we
incurred expenses to remedy them.
We would appreciate any additional information or support you can offer us regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Patrick and Lisa Cheney
