GEOLOGY

GEOLOGIC SETTING

The site is situated in the Coast Range geomorphic province of California and is seismically
dominated by the presence of the active San Andreas fault system. The San Andreas fault system
is the general boundary between the northward moving Pacific Plate and the southward moving
North American Plate. In the San Francisco Bay Area, relative plate movement is distributed
across a complex system of generally strike-slip, right lateral parallel and sub-parallel faults, which
include the San Andreas, Hayward and Calaveras faults, among others.

Regional geologic mapping by T.W. Dibblee, Jr. et al. (2005), maps the western portion of the site
(adjacent to Foothill Road) as sandstone. The remainder of the site is mapped as alluvial sand and
gravel of Arroyo Laguna.

4. SITE INVESTIGATION
FIELD EXPLORATION

Field exploration for this investigation consisted of 15 test pits with a backhoe and drilling 15
borings using a B-53 truck mounted drill rill. The test pits were excavated on November 13th and
14th, 2019. The test pits were excavated to an approximate depth of 5 feet. The first 10 borings
were drilled on November 25th, 2019 to approximate depths of 10 feet. Additional subsurface
exploration at the site was performed on August 18, 2022, and consisted of the drilling, and
sampling of 4 small-diameter borings to depths between 15 and 25 feet below ground surface.
Materials encountered in the Borings and Test Pits were logged by a member of our engineering
staff. The soils encountered were classified in accordance with the USCS. Bulk samples of the
materials encountered were collected from the test pits. The borings were backfilled with grout
and inspected by Zone 7 Water Agency.
