The effort of the department’s leadership represents a
commitment to the Pleasanton community by its Police Department to ensure the City’s law
enforcement agency exemplifies a culture and models practices that are contemporary, at the
forefront of the policing profession, and meets the community’s expectations.
The Pleasanton Police Department has a long standing and demonstrated success of being
accountable to the community it serves. With strong connections and meaningful partnerships
between the Police Department and the community, the level of trust that exists and continues to
be developed is reflective of that accountability. Pillar 2 of the Task Force Report highlights the
issue and importance of civilian oversight to strengthen trust between the police and the
community it serves.
On January 1st, 2022, Pleasanton Police Department began tracking RIPA (Racial Identity and
Profiling Act) data to the Department of Justice. Even though official data did not start being
transmitted to DOJ until January of 2022, we began gathering data in a testing phase, starting
October of 2021. The purpose of gathering this data is to ensure Pleasanton Police Officers are
enforcing the laws equally without any malice or bias.
