boundaries)
The subject property at 493 St. John Street is in downtown Pleasanton. Located on the southern side of the block
roughly bounded by St. John Street to the south, Main Street to the east, Arroyo del Valle to the north, and the railroad
tracks to the west, the subject parcel is close to the commercial center of Pleasanton which lies to the east and south.
Low-rise residential buildings, mostly single-family houses, appear to the west.

The large deep lot features a main house (nearest to St. John Street), a cottage to the northwest of the house, and three
accessory buildings in the rear yard. Behind the gated rear yard is a large, paved parking lot. This parking area serves
the restaurant to the east. Constructed prior to 1888, this two-story, over partial basement house is irregular in plan.
The vernacular wood-frame structure has horizontal wood siding and a steeply pitched, asphalt shingle-clad, cross-
gable roof with dormers featuring a shed and gable roofs. (See Continuation Sheet.)
