A
copy of the current salary structure is provided as Attachment 1. Effective January 1, 2025,
California’s minimum wage will increase to $16.50 per hour. Staff is recommending wage
adjustments (as provided in Attachment 2) to comply with the state-mandated increase in
minimum wage.

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution approving compensation for temporary/seasonal employees and amending
the temporary, part-time/seasonal classification salary structure (Attachment 3).

BACKGROUND
The City employs up to 450 temporary employees throughout the year. These positions are
generally part-time, non-benefitted, and have an average schedule of eight to 30 hours per
week. The state minimum wage increase has prompted the recommendation before the
Council.

DISCUSSION
The minimum wage in California will increase from $16.00 to $16.50 per hour, effective
January 1, 2025. Adjusting wages to comply with the minimum wage is mandatory. The
proposed Temporary, Part-Time Seasonal Classification Salary Structure will accommodate
the minimum wage adjustments.

This report reviews the recommended classifications and compensation structure changes for
the City’s temporary employees. As a union does not represent these employees, staff seeks
Council approval of these adjustments.

EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Compliance with state minimum wage ensures that impacted temporary part-time seasonal
employees are receiving pay consistent with state requirements.

OUTREACH
No outreach was conducted, as this item is a routine matter of City business.

STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
