Pleasanton values cultural diversity and places emphasis on the need to foster greater
connection among Pleasanton’s disparate population groups through culturally diverse
programming. In the City’s Cultural Plan, 65% of survey respondents believe the City
should fully support and expand, or play a major role in developing arts and culture and
entertainment programs in Pleasanton. The Cultural Plan also states: “the City’s priorities
should be to help ensure arts education for all students, support amateur arts and cultural
activities by all residents, and celebrate cultural diversity of the community.” (pg. 22)
b. The East Bay Jazz Community Concert supports amateur high school-aged musicians in
sharpening their skills and attain performance experience in their own hometown
community. The Community Concert will expose high school students to real-world
performance experience in a public setting and expose Pleasanton residents to a diverse
repertoire of jazz music. East Bay Jazz will introduce the young musicians to opportunities
to perform, to learn from professional musicians in master clinic workshops, and to improve
their ability to improvise and sight-read music.
