Please choose a common indicator that your agency will use to measure participation.
Audience (performance)
Spectators (event)
Participants
Clients
Estimate the total number of unduplicated Pleasanton residents to be served by this
project.
375 elementary and middle school students
Describe the specific population your agency anticipates serving with these funds and
how they will benefit from the implementation of this project. (e.g. low income, youth,
disabled, etc.)
Two populations will be served with these funds, namely Pleasanton elementary and middle
school music students. For these students, participating in a program created specifically
for them will convey an important message that these students are taken seriously as a
valued audience attending a high quality orchestra concert performance. This exposure to
classical music provides an opportunity for the students to experience a different musical
genre, thus expanding their musical literacy. This concert experience may also lead to
sparking student interest in playing a musical instrument, an activity that offers many
advantages beyond simply learning an instrument. For those already studying an
instrument seeing the professional performance brought to them will inspire them towards
greater improvement, Music provides cultural inclusion and enrichment for young students
of all populations that can also promote academic success and social skills.
Please describe in detail what the community grant funds will be specifically used for.
The community grant funds will be used to pay for
1. the musicians, violin soloist and Music Director
2. development of the educational materials
Describe how this project is cost effective and whether the budget is reasonable for the
anticipated result. If this project does not receive funding, what will be the effect on this
project?
The Pacific Chamber Orchestra one-hour school-day matinee is free for elementary and
middle students along with their teacher and parent chaperones. Schools save the cost of
travel and the loss of nearly an entire school day that would be involved in traveling to San
Francisco to attend a concert. Depending upon the number of students who attend the
concert, the cost to the City of Pleasanton is about $12 per person, a truly a modest
expense for the opportunity to hear a top-notch professional group of orchestra musicians
perform in their own city. Without City funding, PCO would not be able to offer this unique
opportunity.
