Pacific Chamber Orchestra (PCO), now in its 34th season, is a regional professional
ensemble dedicated to sustaining and extending the rich heritage of classical music for
chamber orchestra for 8 to 40 musicians through inspiring performances and engaging
educational programs that enrich life in our local communities. PCO offers a wide range of
programming. This flexibility allows for the commission of new works and the performance
of undiscovered gems. Conductor Lawrence Kohl’s concert programs are uniquely
designed to illuminate common musical threads that bind together works being presented
and to engage the audience through fostering a deeper appreciation of the music. PCO
musicians perform with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera, Ballet and Theater orchestras
and in movie soundtracks recorded at Skywalker Ranch. PCO members tour and solo
internationally. PCO has had a Tri-Valley and, specifically, a Pleasanton presence for over
three decades. The Livermore Independent enthused, “the Pacific Chamber [Orchestra] is
indeed the best you can hear . . . a treasure beyond price.” PCO's educational program has
brought classical music to over 300,000 children through full-orchestra matinee concerts,
clinics for middle and high school music students, and introductions to musical concepts in
the elementary school assembly program.
Please describe how you plan to market this project.
In fall-winter the list of all the elementary school classroom and music teachers is updated.
After the date has been arranged with the Pleasanton Middle School, a descriptive
announcement encouraging teachers to signup their classes is emailed to each elementary
school classroom teacher. As teachers signup their class, inquiries are made to be sure that
the other teachers in that school and the same grade level are aware of the program.
Typically, the hall fills up quickly and a waiting list is then created so that if a class drops out
(which seldom happens), then there is a class that can take it's place.
Explain how this project will be implemented and include a brief timeline for
implementation.
The Music Director, with the assistance the Education Manager, reserves the with the
District and Pleasanton Middle School at the beginning of the school year. The
announcement is sent out after winter break for teacher and class signups. The Music
Director and Education Manager develop the educational materials that will then be
emailed one to two weeks before the concert. The Education Manager coordinates all
details with the elementary school teacher. Logistical arrangements are made through the
PMS music teacher. On the day of the concert, PCO volunteers will serve as ushers to
welcome them to the performance, and at the end of the performance, to thank all for
coming to the concert and to get instant feedback., Back in their classrooms, teachers will
seek out student impressions of the concert experience which can be shared through
letters and drawings and sent back to PCO’s Music Director.
Identify the organization(s) that your agency will partner with on this project. (A
Collaboration Agency Form is required for each collaborating agency.) Enter N/A if not
applicable.
PCO collaborates with the Pleasanton Unified School District.
