City of Pleasanton
Consulting Services - AMI Feasibility Study
7 | P a g e

Based on our extensive market knowledge and engagement with other utilities across North America,
Diameter’s subject matter experts will compare and benchmark data. Where documentation does not
exist, Diameter Services will work with the City to ensure there is a good understanding of the current
situation.

Deliverables/Tasks:
• Develop customized Information Request
• Review Information Request / Prepare for Workshop Activities

1.2.3. Organizational and Project Goals
Approach: Workshop Topic – Diameter’s approach includes a workshop session on Organizational
and Project Goals. A round table discussion that includes key team members will be convened during
the workshop, and the participants will engage in a guided discussion to determine the biggest issues
affecting the water utility, the key initiatives that Pleasanton is planning to pursue, and how AMI
technology could help support those goals. Our subject matter experts will review the City’s existing
metering system to see what features support these goals and to identify any gaps where present day
AMI systems can provide additional functionality. Final recommendations will summarize how the City
will benefit from AMI technology in relation to the utility’s goals.

Deliverables/Tasks:
• Project Goals Session - Workshop Topic

1.2.4. Meter and AMI Problem Definition
Approach: Workshop Topic – The problem definition would involve identifying key challenges,
inefficiencies, and opportunities within Pleasanton’s existing metering and data management systems.
The engagement would include a detailed review of the communication network and software/data
analytics platform as well as assessment of operational issues and costs facing meter maintenance and
customer service. Stakeholder interviews may be required to best understand operational pain points
and customer service impacts as compared to what is typical in the industry. The outcome would be a
clearly defined problem statement, along with prioritized recommendations for addressing gaps and
achieving an optimized AMI solution tailored to Pleasanton’s goals. The data gathered will help
Diameter develop the operational costs of maintaining the current system as compared to an AMI
alternative as part of the overall Financial Model.

Deliverables/Tasks:
• Project Goals Session - Workshop Topic
• Review of service orders and meter maintenance issues/tasks
• Review of customer service database
• Interview with stakeholders as required
• Analysis of data being provided by the system, reporting functionality, data analytic capabilities,
functional gaps as compared to business drivers.

Docusign Envelope ID: A02F5956-6338-44A0-AD2F-17F98C437CB8
