2) Sustainability Award Program. This would be a small program to
recognize a handful of citizens, businesses or non -profits in
Pleasanton who are doing exceptional work to make Pleasanton an
environmental greener city. Again, the volunteer commissioners
could manage the annual program, solicit and review nominations
with little to no cost to the city.
I believe the E&E Commission leverages the smarts and passion
from a group of talented volunteer commissioners who help promote
the environmental stewardship message within the city that is very
important to the Pleasanton citizens at almost no cost to the City.
Let's not completely abandon the Pleasanton's tradition of
responsibly caring for our local environment and PLEASE KEEP THE
ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT COMMISSION IN OPERATION.
On a second note, I also recommend filling the vacant Sustainability
Manager position. Our quality CAP 2.0 plan lays out reasonable
steps for Pleasanton to do our part in reducing greenhouse gases.
Although we may not be able to afford all the initiatives it proposed
right now, we can apply for county and state grants to offset many
of the costs. But we need staff like the Sustainability Manager to
write the grant requests. It's very possible that the grants we win
would more than offset the cost of this position.
PLEASE SERIOUSLY CONSIDER RETAINING THE SUSTAINABILITY
MANAGER POSITION.
