businesses are impacted by the train horn noise, as illustrated on the attached figure, which shows a large swath of the City is close to the tracks. The
train horn noise impacts thousands of people, most of whom aren’t even aware that the creation of a railroad Quite Zone is possible and would
significantly reduce noise.
Train noise is a quality-of-life issue for all who live, work, dine and spend leisure time within earshot of the train tracks. This includes downtown
residents, businesses and restaurant customers. This issue has been raised in the past (2007, 2017), but there’s increasing support for a Quite Zone, and
there now appears to be much lower cost options for increasing safety, complying with regulations and eliminating the need for blaring train horns. For
example, the recent Sunol and Castlewood Drive railroad crossings improvements appear to be relatively inexpensive. (as opposed to the expensive
“Quad gate” crossings previously proposed)
Please support funding a study to create a Quite Zone in Pleasanton for the benefit of all who live, work, dine and spend leisure time within earshot of the
train tracks. The cost should be relatively small, especially when compared to past estimates.
Thank you
