I am writing to express my
strong opposition to closing the library 2 days a week and reducing
library collections by 50%. 1 know this will require reducing staff. I am
hoping this decision will not affect the daily librarians and clerks at
the library, which are each a great resource for getting information.
The reduced hours would add more volume to the daily staff during
the revised hours and with reduced collections, more books would
have to be sent from outside sources. Where is Pleasanton, city of
planned process? It seems we are not looking to the future, but
instead going backwards to the past. I am not on social media, but I
strongly agree with the high school senior who recently had a well
written post on Facebook that a friend sent me. Was he so articulate
because he spent time studying after school at the library? The
library is a COMMUNITY CENTER for all of Pleasanton, regardless of
age or ethnicity. It is a reflection of who and what this town should
be. Where can a person go to research facts and information,
without getting outside influence? I urge you to stand with residents
and protect the Pleasanton Library by maintaining its current hours
of operation and collections.
Sincerely, Kathy Anderson
