I was so excited to get my
own library card that I memorized my card number - I still remember
it today, more than a decade later. I am writing to express my strong
opposition to closing the library 2 days a week and reducing library
collections by 50%.
As the most used City facility in Pleasanton, the library is an
essential resource for many people, including myself. As a high
schooler the library was an important place to study with my
classmates, particularly during after school and evening hours. In
particular, I represented the City of Pleasanton at the state and
national V\Ln the People competition - my class and others have long
relied on the library not only as a source of reading and study
materials but also as a work and study space. I am incredibly proud
of this program and its legacy and I believe it reflects well on
Pleasanton - cutting library days could diminish this opportunity for
the city's students. I have continued to volunteer with Pleasanton
schools and know for a fact that students from both Foothill and
Amador continue to rely on the library as a meeting space.
Reducing library access means limiting opportunities not just for
students, but also for job seekers, families, workers, and
community members who depend on its resources. I urge you to
stand with residents and protect the Pleasanton Library by
maintaining its current hours of operation and collections.
Sincerely,
Aaron Guerra
