Even if you don't use the
facility, you benefit from having it available for use:
1) It provides services to ALL ages in our community- toddler
swimming lessons to senior water fitness, and all ages in between!
2) It is the home of a nationally ranked competitive swimming club -
the Pleasanton Seahawks (PLS). This team provides all year round
competitive instruction/support/and fellowship to swimming aged
children. This includes those that have collegiate swimming
aspirations as well as it currently has 2 Olympic time trial
swimmers!- they are Olympic hopefuls of the future! The PLS
Seahawk team is regarded regionally as a team with highly talented
and skilled swimmers! Families move the area just to have their
swimmers on the PLS team! AND parents drive their swimmer to
Pleasanton from other areas like Danville and Fremont just to be on
the PLS team. This prestige is good for our City!
3) the PLS team hosts a number of swim meets at DBAC that bring
swimmers and their families from all over- this brings revenue to
our businesses! They might stay at hotels to not have to drive back
and forth, they purchase food items from our grocery stores, they
purchase gas before starting their drive back home, they eat out at
our restaurants after a long day of commutative racing - hungry
swimmers EAT! This could clearly be seen this past weekend for the
Far Mstern Meet that was held Thursday to Sunday- swimmers from
Arizona, Los Angels, etc traveled and stayed in our hotels and made
grocery and dinning purchases while they were here.
4) The high school swim team (Amador and Foothill) season is only 2
1/2 months long and of the 6 meets that the swimmers participate in
- only 3 at most are sanctioned- meaning that the times the
swimmer achieves gets counted toward their college recruitment
profile. Applying to college is the hardest it has EVER been - don't
