It's also home for caregivers looking to learn early
literacy skills at storytime. The library encourages young students to
explore their interests and boost their reading through decades -long
programs like Paws to Read, Summer Reading, and Booklegger. It's
a community center for the teens, whether at the after school
program or when they are studying with their peers (often every
evening until the building closes at 9 pm). It's a resource center for
anyone looking to learn English with the ESL program, or use the
free computers to rewrite their resume, or print a necessary
document because their printer unexpectedly stopped working, if
they have one at all. It's a safe and judgement -free place for those
experiencing homelessness or a mental health crisis who can't go
anywhere else or don't know where to get resources.
No matter who you are or what is going on in your life, the library
should always be there. A reliable access point for everyone,
whether you are a regular user or someone just passing through. By
cutting hours, you are actively put up barriers to those who need the
services most. And cutting two senior librarians means losing two
highly -trained and knowledgeable front line individuals. They have
shown time and time again that they are the most qualified to
connect with each community member that comes through our
doors.
The Pleasanton Library is the heartbeat of our community. And our
community is always essential.
