SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
3. Parks, Streets, and Facilities (Pg 13/40):
a. #9 -We have a lot of medians that are maintained by private vendors, how much
savings really could be here related to that?
Answer:
The City maintains approximately 85 acres of street median landscaping,
accounting for nearly 40% of the total medians maintained in the city. Regularly
applying mulch to the City -owned medians is a best practice that helps suppress
weeds, conserves soil moisture, improves plant health, and provides a maintained
Look to the City's landscaped medians.
The City's median landscaping services and mulch services are performed by
contractors under the City's Repair and Replacement (R&R) budget. The proposed
reduction will eliminate the mulch service contract completely at $100,000 annually
and significantly reduce contractor's services on median landscaping by $100,000
annually out of an average of $540,000 annually.
The proposal also eliminates the fall leaf pick up service. Starting 2024, the City has
been sending information to residents that they are responsible for their yard debris.
In the past, residents would sweep the yard debris to city street expecting city to
provide unfunded services to sweep and remove resident's debris. Effective 2025,
the City will start sending notification for illegal dumping when resident sweep their
yard debris into city street. Eliminating the unfunded service on fall leaf pickup will
save the city additional material and dumping fees and staff can refocus on core
services.
4. Community Support & Human Services (Pg 13/40):
a. #10— How much to each of these groups? Why is it all or nothing, what about
reduced support by 10%?
b. #10—Vet's Parade, Tri -Valley Community Television, Axis Community Health,
Museum on Main, & Sr. Support services — how much to each?
Answer:
This potential reduction category is an estimated amount that includes funding for
various community partners, based on the following amounts:
5
