City of Pleasanton—Villages at the Quarry Project
15183 Consistency Checklist Consistency Checklist

113
design standards as well as the Earthquake Hazards Reduction Act, Goal 1,
Policies 1 and 2 of the General Plan Public Safety Element.
The Housing Element Update FEIR concluded that compliance with
applicable current federal, State, and local laws, along with the applicable
Municipal Code requirements, would ensure that future development
projects are appropriately reviewed and designed in terms of potentially
geological impacts.
The Geotechnical Report concluded that since there are no known active
faults within the project site, it is unlikely that ground rupture would occur at
the project site. Therefore, the proposed project would not result in any
environmental effects that are peculiar to the proposed project. The
proposed project would not result in a new or more severe adverse impact
that was not previously identified in the Housing Element Update FEIR.
ii) Strong Seismic Ground Shaking
Summary of Housing Element Update FEIR
The Housing Element Update FEIR indicated that the Calaveras, Hayward,
and San Andreas Faults are most likely to produce the greatest level of
ground shaking at the rezoned housing sites. “Violent” or “severe to violent”
ground shaking is expected to occur throughout the City including at several
of the rezoned housing sites. Refer to Housing Element Update FEIR Exhibit 3.6-
3.
The Housing Element Update FEIR concluded that compliance with the CBC,
applicable Municipal Code requirements, as well as goals, policies, and
programs included as part of the General Plan would ensure that future
development projects are appropriately investigated in terms of potential
seismic hazards and that any new buildings and structures are constructed to
withstand strong seismic ground shaking and, therefore, impacts would be
less than significant.
Proposed Project Analysis and Conclusion
As discussed above, the project site is not within an established EFZ. However,
the project site is in a seismically active area and is surrounded by EFZs. Faults
that are in proximity to the project site are the Verona, Pleasanton, and the
Northern Calaveras Section of the Calaveras Fault Zones. The Mount Diablo
Thrust (not an EFZ) is approximately 4.3 miles northeast of the project site, and
the Las Positas Fault Zone is approximately 6.6 miles east of the project site.
