City of Pleasanton UFMP – Wildfire Planning Section Addition 1
City of Pleasanton UFMP – Additional Community Outreach
and Youth Engagement
February 27, 2024
Proposed Scope of Work
After analyzing the results of the first urban forest survey for Pleasanton, there were very few respondents under
the age of 30. In an effort to reach and get feedback from Pleasanton’s younger residents, the City is now in the
process of working with Dudek on a second survey that will be catered to a younger audience. One event (Youth
Commission Meeting) was previously attended by Dudek Staff that was beyond the original scope of the project.
Task 6.1.1: Outreach Events
Dudek staff attended and presented at the City of Pleasanton’s Youth Commission Meeting on February 14th,
2024 in an effort to engage high school and junior high school students and get feedback on how to reach more
of Pleasanton’s younger residents.
Task 6.2.1: Online Survey
Dudek will work with City staff to make one round of updates to the urban forest survey questions that aim to
reach a younger audience. After the survey closes, Dudek will analyze the results and combine the more recent
survey results with the original survey results. The combined results will be provided to the City in Microsoft Excel
and Word formats.
Task 6.3: Supporting Materials
As part of the second survey and outreach efforts to Pleasanton’s younger residents, Dudek will make one round
of revisions on outreach flyers and posters and provide to the City in PDF format. Previous work was performed to
revise the survey flyer and poster to incorporate the revised survey QR code.
City of Pleasanton UFMP – Wildfire Planning Section Addition
Proposed Scope of Work
Concerns related to wildfire in the City are primarily associated with the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) located
along the City’s western edge (generally west of Foothill Road) where the terrain steepens as it extends upward
toward Pleasanton Ridge. Additional areas of concern are located in the south and southeastern portion of the
City (generally southeast of Bernal Avenue). These areas are characterized by native woodland, savannah, and
grassland vegetation adjacent to developed areas. A portion of the City (near Augustin Bernal Park and
Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park) is mapped as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone by CAL FIRE. High and Very
High Fire Hazard Severity Zones are also mapped just outside City limits, along its western and southern
boundaries.
This proposed scope of work is intended to more formally identify areas of the City with increased wildfire hazard
conditions and identify urban forest management recommendations to minimize wildfire risk, where feasible.
