Pleasanton
' UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
June 12, 2025
Gerry Beaudin, City Manager
City of Pleasanton
123 Main Street
Pleasanton Ca 94566
Re: Partnership, Student Safety, and Crossing Guards
Dear City Manager Beaudin,
925-462-5500
5758 W. Las Positas Blvd.
Pleasanton, CA 94588
pleasantonusd.net
On behalf of the Pleasanton Unified School District, I want to express our sincere appreciation
for the City's ongoing partnership and support. Our collaboration is invaluable in advancing
shared goals, and we see this letter as a purposeful gesture to deepen the collaboration
between the District and the City.
Safety remains a top priority. I am pleased to share that at our upcoming June 12, 2025,
Board meeting, the District will propose staffing ten (10) school crossing guard locations at a
cost of up to $175,000, while the City will fund the remaining twelve (12) crossing guard
locations, up to a total of $500,000. This sharing of costs reflects our commitment to student
safety. The District fully intends to fund our part, pending Board approval.
We look forward to analyzing the performance of both our crossing guard programs this year
and sharing ideas for coordinating and managing these efforts, including, but not limited to,
staffing, training, and data collection.
In the same spirit of shared commitment, we greatly appreciate the City's continued support of
the School Resource Officer (SRO) program. The presence of SROs on our campuses is a
powerful demonstration of our shared public duty to uphold a safe and welcoming school
environment. The District values this partnership with the Police Department and is grateful
that the City has invested in these critical roles. We look forward to working together to
sustain and strengthen the SRO program, ensuring our students have the support they need.
We also recognize that both the City and the District are navigating challenging budget
realities. Like many public agencies, we face fiscal constraints that make it difficult to fund
essential programs. Looking beyond safety and scarcity in our budgets, we want to look to the
future and envision an even broader partnership with the City of Pleasanton. For instance, our
land -use planning and development decisions will directly impact school enrollment and
facility needs, and it is important that the District's long-range facilities planning be aligned
with the City's General Plan and development goals.
Thank you again for the City's partnership and support. The Pleasanton Unified School
District values our strong working relationship with the City of Pleasanton. We are committed
to collaborating closely with you in a spirit of partnership and optimism, always focused on
serving our students and the denizens of our community.
