Five new locations have also
been identified to enhance the system's efficacy.

Privacy issues are an important part of ALPR technology use. The City’s policy regulating the
use of ALPR data ensures this technology is not used for unauthorized purposes. Under the
policy, data collected is retained for 30 days, and an audit trail and justification are collected for
each authorized access to the data. ALPR data is shared with local and state law enforcement
agencies for the purpose of investigations; however, the department does not share the data
with federal law enforcement, out-of-state law enforcement, or any non-law enforcement
entities. ALPR data is not used for tracking purposes related to immigration or reproductive
health.

Staff recommends replacing the Motorola Vigilant ALPR cameras, which are at the end of life,
with new Flock cameras to improve performance and efficiency and increase coverage area.

EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Effectively using technology to assist with deterring and solving crime contributes to public
safety and quality of life, benefitting all members of Pleasanton's diverse community.
