The Traffic Signal Repair and Replacement budget is $450,000 per year
comprised of $100,000 in 52030410-430107 for labor costs and $350,000 in 52030410-
440104 for equipment costs).
The costs for pole knockdowns are typically recovered from the party that caused the damage,
and in the event no recoverable party is identified, the Traffic Engineering operating budget is
used to pay for the repair. The annual not-to-exceed amount of $1,000,000 is in place to
ensure that sufficient capacity in the contract is available to address any emergency needs. In
addition, the signal maintenance services agreement is also utilized to assist in the City's
resurfacing contracts (roadway resurfacing removes and replaces the traffic signal detection
loops and a signal contractor is required for the repair and replacement of the signal detection
system). As noted, $725,000 is budgeted annually in the Traffic Engineering and replacement
plan budgets for these costs; if there are costs in excess of this amount due to pole
knockdowns (which has happened extremely rarely), or from additional work from a Capital
Improvement Project, it will be reflected as mid-year or midterm budget adjustments or through
a CIP report to the City Council.
Prepared by: Submitted by: Approved by:
Cedric Novenario, Senior
Transportation Engineer
Ellen Clark, Director of Community
Development
Gerry Beaudin, City
Manager
Attachments:
1.
