City of Pleasanton, CA (0012108.00) 2-7 Woodard & Curran, Inc.
Pleasanton Long-Term Sewer CIP October 6, 2025
The inspections will be prioritized based on the same types of factors used for gravity pipe risk assessment.
The force main inspections may include visual assessment of pipe alignments, inspection of discharge
manholes, ultrasonic pipe thickness testing if feasible/appropriate, and actual internal CCTV inspection or
other technology to assess pipe condition if possible. Any force mains that can be CCTV inspected (or
partially inspected) may be added to the gravity pipe CCTV inspection program to be conducted by
contractors. Once available, needed improvements based on the results of the condition assessments will
be prioritized and scheduled into the City’s long-term capital improvement plan as appropriate.
2.7.4 Asset Management Plan
The City is currently in the process of developing a City-wide asset management program. As part of this
program the sewer utility will need to develop its approach to asset management that integrates with the
City’s overall asset management plan.

2.7.5 Cathodic Protection and Installation and I/I Studies
The City plans to perform an inventory and assess the effectiveness of its cathodic protection along pipeline
and lift stations. Corrosion can drastically reduce the expected useful life of both lift station components
and metallic pipes. To address this, the City has also allocated funding in the near, mid, and long term to
install new cathodic protection systems following the study.
In addition, high I/I can significantly increase wet weather flows in sewer mains and may contribute to spills,
so the City may perform further investigations in areas prone to higher I/I.
